Lot #75733

This 1976 Jaguar XJ6C is said to have spent time in the Pacific Northwest until it was relocated to Michigan by the seller in 2012, and work in 2018 included rebuilding the 4.2-liter inline-six and installation of a GM-sourced 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. The car is finished in brown over tan leather upholstery, and equipment includes European-specification bumpers and headlights, a brown vinyl roof covering, 15” steel wheels with chrome covers, Bilstein dampers, triple SU carburetors, a Nardi steering wheel, power windows, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. This XJ6C is now offered with service records dating back to 1997 and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The pillarless coupe body was finished in Sable (025) from the factory and is said to have been repainted under prior ownership. Features include European-specification 7” headlights and reproduction polished stainless-steel bumpers. Additional details include chrome mirrors, a re-dyed brown vinyl roof covering, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes dents around the body, paint chips on the forward sections of the rocker panels and lower valances, burned paint beneath the exhaust outlets, and bubbling paint on the doors, right rocker panel seam, and beneath the roof vinyl on the right side.

The 15” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are wrapped in 215/70 Dunlop D65 tires that need to be replaced due to old age. The suspension has been fitted with Bilstein dampers, and braking is handled by four-wheel discs that are mounted inboard at the rear.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in tan leather complemented by wood veneer dash trim. Appointments include three-point front seatbelts, rear lap belts, power windows, a rear cabin air vent, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo. The wood trim is cracked in the center of the dashboard and there are tears in the leather on the front center armrest, right door armrest, and driver’s seat cushion. The horns have been removed and the clock does not work.

A wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 12k miles, approximately 3k of which were added by the seller. The odometer has rolled over, and true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features three SU carburetors and was rebuilt in August 2018, at which time the piston rings, main and rods bearings, tensioners, upper and lower gaskets, and oil pump were replaced, the block was machined, and .030 oversize 9:1 compression pistons were reportedly installed along with a cylinder head and larger intake valves from a fuel-injected engine. The engine wiring harness was replaced in 2019.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a remanufactured four-speed GM 700R4 automatic transmission that was installed in 2019. The seller notes fluid leaks at the transmission output seal and differential. A portion of the right front floor pan was reportedly replaced under prior ownership.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
