Ebay items 4/10/22
www.ebay.com/itm/165426121935
Starting bid: C$3,700 no reserve 0 bids 6 days left in auction, seller dadsfarm4w9s, 84k miles.

Seller's description:
1973 Jaguar XJ6, for restoration.

Broadly speaking, this car has very good body, good interior, good engine, and would need brake system work, suspension work, fuel system, and a paint job to be nice.

I’ve known this car and its owners for 35 years. It was owned by a gent who ran a British auto repair shop, together with his son, here in Niagara area Ontario. He was well known in these parts, although sadly passed.

It was the son’s wife’s car, and following difficult circumstances, was stored in a dry garage for 10 years when I bought it. It was well serviced during their ownership, including a cylinder head rebuild and gasket some time before storing, with new oil in the eng

I’ve owned and driven Series 1 XJ’s for a total of 38 years and know them well. I thought I had the initiative to restore another, but I now realize I do not.

After the long storage, I cleaned the carbs, and ran the engine from a gas can. The carbs will need a proper rebuild. The fuel tanks do not leak, but they are full of varnish. The engine runs well, with good oil pressure and equal compression of 125 pounds.

The transmission engages, although without brakes, I didn’t try all the gears.

Originally Olde English White with Red leather, the body has been painted white. I don’t see evidence of any panels being changed or repaired.

The coolant was 500 ml low.
The brake fluid reservoir is empty.
The power steering fluid was low 250 ml.
All font suspension bushings and ball joints will need replacing.
All brake rotors and pads will need replacing, and maybe the calipers rebuilt.
The exhaust system is good front to back.
Rear suspension cradle mounts are rotted.
The condition of the AC system is unknown.
All lights work, except turn signals do not flash, and the floor high beam switch needs attention.
The wipers work, and actually parkl!
All power windows work.
The door lock and trunk lock work with the keys provided.
The headliner and rear parcel shelf will need to be renewed.
The dash cover has no cracks.

Overall this car is in great condition for a 49 year old car. The body shell is quite sound, without the usual spare tire panel rotted, sills, jacking points, trailing arm rot etc.

To restore this car would not be a massive 5 year total restoration. With brakes, suspension and fuel system sorted you could drive it as is.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
