Car to be at auction 5/21
www.brightwellslive.com/lot/details/519445
Note incorrect VIN provided, corrections welcome.
Auction description:
1985 Daimler Double-Six
Estimate: £5,000-7,000
Wonderful example of this marque with a beautiful tan interior; sunroof, auto-box and whisper quiet engine - lovely
Dating from January 1985 this smart Daimler Double-Six features, of course Jaguar's legendary 5.3 V12 mated here to 3-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Cobalt Blue with an exquisite tan interior with wood rim steering wheel the car invites and envelopes the lucky occupants. We also find electric windows, walnut trim, electric mirrors, electric sunroof, trip computer, cruise control and Pioneer radio/CD player with CD changer in the boot.
Starting promptly and running almost silently the car moves around as one might expect, with a hushed sense of smooth purpose. Evidently restored to a high standard in recent times, this is however undocumented with the history file containing only the V5C showing it has been in the current ownership since 1991 with just 4 previous keepers. In addition to the V5, we also have the current MOT valid until February 2022 with no advisories recorded.
A wonderful and most usable example of a rare car at sensibe money.

Car returned to auction 4/23

1985 Daimler Double Six

Recent service including new tyres, rear brake discs, radiator and battery; runs and drives; gearbox fault
First registered in January 1985, this Double Six S3 looks most attractive in Cobalt Blue with a tan hide interior. Sadly there is very little history with the car but an invoice shows that it was sold by Howells of Cheltenham to a local restaurant owner in December 1987 for £17,950 when it had covered 31,268 miles. The service book shows that they serviced it twice: at 31,782 miles in December 1987 and at 38,950 miles in May 1988.
Our vendor (who is the 6th owner) acquired the car via Brightwells in May 2021 when it had covered 109,350 miles. He serviced the car and replaced the rear brake discs and pads (a lengthy job that involves dropping the rear subframe), fitted a new high flow aluminium radiator, new battery and a new set of Toyo tyres, since when the car has only covered around 500 miles.
The gearbox then developed a fault – although it still runs and drives, the gearbox whines under acceleration. During the few miles our vendor covered in the car he was so smitten that he went out and bought another one, rather than trying to fix this one – hence its appearance in our sale.
