This 1977 Jaguar XJ6C was purchased by the current owner in 2000 and underwent a refurbishment that was completed around 2010. Its 4.2-liter inline-six is from a Jaguar E-type and was bored .020″ over and fitted with Mk X triple SU carburetors, and the engine is mated to a Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission. The cylinder head and the radiator came from a Series 3 XJ6, the front seats and the steering rack were sourced from a Jaguar XJS, and the 17″ aluminum wheels are from an XJR. The engine is further complemented by a TJP-25 camshaft, Crane Cams electronic ignition, a custom cold-air intake, dual auxiliary electric cooling fans, and an aluminum flywheel. Other features include a louvered hood, a sunroof, walnut interior trim, a Pioneer cassette stereo, a Nardi steering wheel, and automatic climate control as well as four-wheel disc brakes, Addco sway bars, polyurethane suspension bushings, and a custom shock-tower brace. The current owner has driven the vehicle more than 140k miles. This modified Series II XJ6 coupe is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the owner with refurbishment photos, Jaguar Journal magazines featuring the car, and a clean Maryland title in the owner’s name.

Chips in the paint and other imperfections are pictured in the gallery below; rust is pointed out on an A-pillar, a door, a wheel arch, and on the driver-side lower fender.

The five-hole 17″ machined wheels were sourced from a 1995 XJR, and they are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires measuring 235/45 in front and 245/45 at the rear. The ZF steering rack originated in an XJS, and a custom shock-tower brace is tied into the front suspension. Addco sway bars are fitted at the front and rear of the vehicle, as are polyurethane suspension bushings. Braking is provided by ventilated front and solid rear discs.

The front bucket seats are Recaros sourced from an XJS; these and the rear bench seat are trimmed in black leather and are complemented by wood accents. Interior equipment includes a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo, a wood shift knob, a center console, automatic climate control, rear-cabin heating and ventilation controls, cruise control, a quartz clock, power windows, central locking, and door-panel pockets.

The Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 5,500-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, battery voltage, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 35k miles; the current owner has driven the coupe approximately 144k miles, and true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is said to have been originally installed in a Series 2 E-type. It was bored .020″ over around 2010 and fitted with rebuilt triple 2″ SU carburetors from a 1965 Jaguar Mk X. A Series 3 cylinder head also has been adapted. The engine is further complemented by:

Short-height pistons

Terrys Jaguar Parts connecting-rod bolts

Terrys Jaguar Parts TJP-25 camshaft

Crane Cams Fireball XR700 electronic ignition

Rebuilt and recurved distributor

Custom cold-air intake

Series 3 radiator

Dual auxiliary electric cooling fans

Aluminum flywheel

Dual exhaust system

The Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission was supplied by Moss Motors. The rear end contains 3.54:1 gears. The floor pans and the underbody have undergone repairs under current ownership.

The current owner has written two technically focused articles featuring this car for Jaguar Journal. The articles—from editions published in 2018 and in 2024 and refurbishment photos are included.

The identification tag was removed from the car during the refurbishment, according to the seller. The tag on the A-pillar omits the “BW” suffix from the chassis number on the tag above, reading UH2J53401. The Maryland title cites the full number on the rectangular tag: UH2J53401BW.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
