This 1979 Jaguar XJ12L was acquired by the seller in California in 1994, and it has since remained registered in the state. It was refinished in British Racing Green in the early 2000s, and additional work since 2020 included repairing the speedometer and replacing the steering rack, tires, rear mufflers, and one of the air conditioning hoses. Powered by a 5.3-liter V12 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and replacement limited-slip differential with a 2.88:1 final drive ratio, the car is equipped with quad round headlights, a Leaper hood ornament, 15″ ventilated wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, an independent front and rear suspension, tan vinyl upholstery, wood veneer trim, power windows, an Eclipse cassette stereo, and aftermarket speakers. This Series II XJ12 is now offered with repair manuals, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Previously finished in brown, the long-wheelbase body was repainted in the current shade of British Racing Green in 2001, per the seller. Exterior features include chrome bumpers with overriders, quad round headlights, twin fuel-filler doors, a Leaper hood ornament, and dual exhaust outlets. The mounting points for removed Leaper badges are present on the lower portion of the front fenders. The antenna does not fully retract, the rear window defroster is inoperative, and exterior imperfections are visible. Refurbished wheel arch trim is included in the sale.
The 15″ ventilated wheels are mounted with 205/70 Yokohama Avid Ascend LX tires that show 2020 production codes. The car is equipped with an independent front and rear suspension, and stopping power is provided by ventilated front and solid rear disc brakes. A rebuilt rack and pinion was installed in 2024, and a service record from June 2025 indicates the front and rear brakes will require replacement in the near future.
The front bucket seats and rear bench have been retrimmed in tan vinyl, and they are complemented by burl wood accents. An Eclipse cassette stereo has been added, and aftermarket speakers were installed between the late 1990s and early 2000s. Additional details include power windows, wood veneer trim, and a locking glove compartment. The power door locks are not fully functional, the heating and air conditioning are inoperative, there is a split in the dashboard pad above the glove compartment, a panel is loose on the back of the driver’s seat, and cracks are present in the finish on the wood dashboard trim.
The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, voltage, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer has rolled over once, according to the seller, and it shows 30k miles. The seller estimates that approximately 60k miles were added under current ownership. The speedometer was removed and repaired in 2021.
The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with Bosch-Bendix-Lucas D-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 285 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. A replacement radiator is said to have been installed under current ownership, and Time Serts were installed on the intake manifold in 2021. Work in 2025 consisted of replacing an air conditioning hose and performing an oil change. The seller tells us that the ignition components were replaced within the last year. A June 2025 invoice is included that notes oil leaks from multiple spots, and that the drive belts squeal under load. The car most recently passed a California smog test in March 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a GM Turbo Hydra-matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission. A replacement limited-slip differential with a 2.88:1 final drive ratio was installed in 2000. The rear subframe was removed and the subframe mounts were replaced in 2010, according to the seller, and an invoice indicates the driveline was removed and rebuilt in 2012, and the transmission mounts were replaced at that time. Replacement rear mufflers were fitted in 2021, and the right front floor was repaired under current ownership. The floor pans are distorted in front of the rear wheels.
Repair manuals, a tool kit, a car cover, a fire extinguisher, and accessories are included in the sale, along with a spare trunk lid.
