This 1970 Jaguar XJ6 is a European-market saloon that was purchased new by an owner in Germany. The car was brought to the US in the 1980s, and it remained registered in Colorado Springs until the seller’s purchase in 2026. Finished in silver with blue striping, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline six linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Inside, tan leather upholstery is complemented by burl wood trim, and appointments include a Blaupunkt 8-track player, Smiths gauges, and crank windows. The fuel, clutch, and brake systems were refreshed and the tires and rear pivot bearings were replaced in preparation for the sale. This Series 1 XJ6 is now offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, workshop manuals, recent service records, spare parts, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.

Introduced in 1968, the XJ6 was the final Jaguar designed under the leadership of company founder Sir William Lyons. It became the marque’s flagship model in 1970, replacing the 420G.

The seller reports that this car was repainted in its factory shade of silver many years ago, and blue stripes accent the character line. European-market lighting has been retained, and overriders protect the wraparound bumpers. Bubbling paint is noted by the seller along with corrosion on the exhaust tips.

Color-keyed 15” wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings, and Omni Classic 787 tires were mounted in preparation for the sale. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, which were serviced in 2026. The rear pivot bearings were also replaced under current ownership.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in tan leather that extends to the center console and door panels. Burl wood veneer accents the dashboard, which is complemented by wood door caps. A Blaupunkt 8-track player has been added, and it is connected to a power antenna. The seller notes that the car was specified without air conditioning, and it has crank windows. A sagging area of the headliner can be viewed in the gallery.

A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 220-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 26k kilometers (~16k miles), approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors. The right-side fuel tank was replaced and the SU fuel pump was rebuilt as part of a fuel system service completed in preparation for the sale. Oil leaks are noted.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, which is engaged using a switch built into the shifter knob. The clutch hydraulics were replaced in 2026. The seller notes intermittent noise from the rear end when accelerating from a standstill.

Spare parts are included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature and workshop manuals.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
