AMENDMENT: A Heritage Certificate has now been obtained for the car
This lovely example of Jaguar’s landmark XJ6 series is desirable manual overdrive car dating from 1969, was delivered new in Australia, has matching numbers and remains in the original colours. A Heritage Certificate has now been obtained and this confirms the car was completed on November 24, 1969 in cream with dark blue upholstery and was sold through Brysons the following month.
Purchased as a very solid car with excellent panel fit, the white duco is an older respray in two-pack that still presents very well, while the XJ’s interior - always a highlight of these cars - has been extensively refurbished with new leather upholstery, headliner and carpets. The walnut veneer dash renewed and the remaining timber is in good shape apart from some minor wear on the driver’s door capping. As a result the cabin now has a wonderfully inviting feel, the period push-button radio complemented by a discreet audio jack and modern MP3 player. There’s a minor crack on the dash pad - barely discernible from behind the wheel - and the gauges, centre console and toggle switches are all in good condition.
Mechanically the car has been well-sorted by the current owner, a Sydney Jaguar collector, with the XK motor’s top end completely overhauled, the fuel tanks removed, cleaned and sealed before being reinstated with new fuel pumps. The carburettors have been overhauled and a 123 distributor fitted for more reliable starting. The car settles into an idle nicely and the engine pulls cleanly, with plenty of power and strong oil pressure. A refurbished radiator ensures the engine runs cool and the overdrive is working properly. A set of restored Kent alloy wheels have been shod with fresh rubber and finish the car off nicely.
It’s rare to find an XJ6 in this condition and it would make an excellent club car, ideal for show or weekend club runs. The manual gearbox transforms the Jaguar into a real driver’s car, one that loves to be pushed hard through windy country roads.
