1976 Jaguar XJ6C Coupe - EXTREMELY RARE Original 28k Miles All Original Preservation-Class Show Winner

This car is indeed a unicorn - 28k original miles on an entirely original, unrestored, never taken apart, never repainted, never modified, concours-level, really 'museum quality' XJ coupe. I've adored and babied this car for almost 6 years now but it's time for a new home for her.

This 1976 Jaguar XJ6C coupe was delivered new at Beverly Hills Jaguar in December 1975, and remained in the Los Angeles area until 2018.  It was owned by its first owner until 2010, when its second owner, a car collector, purchased it with 25,029 original miles.  This second owner and car collector kept it in a large collection of cars in the San Fernando Valley and ran it occasionally but put very few miles on it.

I purchased it in 2018 with 25,450 miles on the car and in incredibly clean, original condition with no work or modifications ever made on the car.  The paint and chrome were glossy and smooth and the interior was taut and tight with no fading or deterioration at all. All of the paint, chrome, interior and running chassis was original, down to the very aged radial tires on the car.  It was clear that this car was stored as a 'museum piece' and although it ran very well and drove beautifully, I did a number of things after purchase to recommission the car and upgrade it from its original preservation-class condition while retaining the original spec as much as possible. These include:

- changing the Stromberg carburetors to two NOS UK-original S.U. carburetors and adding a discreet manual choke to assist in cold starts (given that the Strombergs were never particularly good, even from new, at this - I do have these and include these with the car)

- replacing the headliner with a factory original color and texture material (it had torn a bit on the interior of the C-pillar and no color seemed to match the aged material)

- replacing all window rubber seals (as they had become dry and brittle from the California air)

- replacing the fuel pumps for each side

- lubricating all window mechanisms and motors

- replacing the aftermarket stereo with a period-correct NOS Audiovox 'In-Dasher' 1976 8-track AM/FM head unit (although I do have the original Jaguar radio with 8 track)

- installing Cooper Trendsetter white wall tires (which is consistent with the sales brochures of the day) 

With the exception of the carburetors and manual choke, the car's spec after all these upgrades is indeed as close to original spec as possible, right down to the white wall tires that the 1975-1977 sales brochures show as standard. With this, JCNA and other judging bodies have deemed it "preservation class" when it's been in shows.

The car spent most of its life in California with the exception of 2018-2020 when it was in a climate-controlled garage in Pennsylvania during the period of the works noted above. It was then in Portland, Oregon from 2020-2022 in a well-protected garage, driven occasionally on sunny weekends, and now resides in Florida. The warm temperatures suit it well and the temperature gauge even on the hottest summer days never really gets beyond the "O" in "Normal".  

The car has been babied from day one by its original and second owner, and remains so to this day. The car never sees any kind of precipitation or water, and has only been wet-washed a total of 4 times by myself since my ownership, and has never been driven in any kind of precipitation.  

The body is extremely clean with very glossy paint that is smooth to the touch and certified original by many Jaguar and body experts that have viewed the car since I have had ownership. The sills and valences are as clean as the top of the car, also smooth, glossy and regularly ceramic waxed.  The chrome is mirror-like all around. The rubber bumpers - original and not changed to the Euro-models, which, if the buyer prefers, they can do (I would not) - are deep black and well-preserved.  It would be difficult to tell this car from a very well-kept and occasionally-driven 2020 Jaguar in terms of body finish. The car retains its original vinyl top which is deep, crisp black, with no tears, scuffs or other blemishes.  Some remove this when 'restoring' the car (removing the originality) - this one has the same top that it had when it rolled out of the showroom floor in Beverly Hills.

The interior is in extremely clean, original condition, with only a touch of patina on the driver's seat, while the passenger seat looks only occasionally used, and the back seat appears to have never been used. All of the wood is in excellent condition with no delamination or peeling or cracking. The dash is solid with no cracking and all of the vinyl parts in the cabin are solid with no discoloration or other defects. Check the photos for more details.

All of the electronics and gauges work as they should. The air conditioning mechanism cycles from heat vents to cool vents internally, but the system is still R12 as none of the previous owners, as well as myself, ever drove the car without all of the windows down - as a pillarless coupe should be. If it were converted to R134 one would assume that the air conditioning would blow cold, given that the amplifier and temperature bulb are operational. All of the interior lights have been replaced to allow for brighter gauges and night view.

Mechanically the car starts on the first crank due to the manual choke assisting with any temperature situation, and the car idles smoothly and runs very, very smoothly. The suspension has no knocks, clunks or other noises, and hugs the road just as Sir William Lyons intended the XJ coupe to be - an "executive sports car". The driving experience is simply amazing given the age of the car and its preservation-class quality.  

This car is indeed a unicorn, a museum piece but regularly driveable, and a car that, if one were to purchase a donor car and attempt to do a restoration to this level of quality, far exceeds its price. A donor car at $10-15k plus a minimum of $60-70k of nut-and-bolt restoration would yield a non-original car; nice, but again, not original and certainly not unique, and not appreciating as much in value as this original car. If Jay Leno were to buy a coupe, I'm sure he'd choose this one!

This car is, I believe, the finest original, unrestored, preservation-class Jaguar XJ coupe in North America, if not the world. The car has won JCNA and local shows as "Best In Show" for its class. There are restored, repainted, otherwise original cars out there, but this one looks, feels, smells and drives literally the same as it did when it rolled off the showroom floor at Beverly Hills Jaguar almost 50 years ago - and has the mileage to prove it. There are just over 28,000 ORIGINAL MILES on this XJ coupe - I challenge anyone to find another one with this mileage and in this original, unrestored, preserved condition.
