Opening bid $3,000, no reserve no bids 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1976 Jaguar XJ12 Coupe
Former Stunner Awaits Rehab

What a magnificent car she once was. A gorgeously sculpted, limited- production two door hardtop in Regency Red on red leather, powered by the famously smooth and muscular 5.3 liter V12. This was a British flagship, luxurious and sporting with a velvet ride and sleek and sensual lines. The coupe clocked 65,588 miles and then something went wrong and the car got parked and the odometer turned no more. The years passed and rust bloomed and the hides got stiff and now this once glamorous feline is a neglected cat looking for a new lease on life.

Why resurrect her? Several good reasons, rarity for one. There were only 1855 XJ12 coupes produced, with a scant 200 cars estimated to remain in the US. The beautiful, timeless lines are another good reason to bring this cat back to life. And the material is there -- Good original glass, good chrome, good wheels, all badging intact. The engine turns, and with the indicated mileage, could well be operational again. At Jaguar, fuel injection had recently replaced the four carbs and the horsepower went up 14%. Forget the miles per gallon, that's not why people drive these cars.

And then there's the corrosion. The restorer of this former stunner will be an individual of stout heart and strong skills. Rust in the floors, or should we say, rust where the floors used to be. Rust in the wheel arches, forward and rear. Little blisters everywhere. The vinyl top all the coupes came from the factory with is no longer there at all. Just as well.

On the plus side, the trunk floor is solid, the frame is solid, the roof is solid, inner front fenders and firewall are solid. The title is clear. And there is no reserve on this auction. Imagine this two door Jag in gleaming Regency Red and back on the road. A factory-correct restoration, a transplant, a street machine -- your call. The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
