Sellers description:
# 1973 JAGUAR XJ12 Series 1
# CAR NUMBER: UUDIP50961*
# ENGINE: Chevrolet 350 V-8
# TRANSMISSION: Chevrolet Automatic
# COLOR: British Racing Green (original color)
# INTERIOR: Biscuit
Always wanted a classic, first generation XJ Jaguar, but concerned about a costly V-12 engine rebuild, should it ever be needed? Do you want Queen of England class at a fraction of a the cost, combined with the practicality of a New World V-8? For your consideration, a quality automobile that offers the best of both worlds!
# HISTORY and DOCUMENTATION
Recorded in the original service manual, Passport to Service, this fine automobile was sold on December 6, 1973 at Charles Hornburg, Jr. Motor Cars, 334 Wilshire Blvd. Beverly Hills, California. The new owner was Bentley Chemical Corporation, 190 Canon Drive, Beverly Hills.
35 years later I discovered this gorgeous automobile at the Pomona Classic Car Sweep Meet here in Southern California.. By this time, so much restoration had been done, I decided to take it home with me.
# COSMETICS
The first thing about this car, in my opinion, is the quality of the paint. Obviously everything was removed before the new finish, including hardware in the door jambs, engine compartment, and just about everywhere you might look. This paint was done by someone that knew what they were doing, and took the time to do it right. Obviously it has been color sanded and lovingly buffed to the mirror-like finish.
I have been able to find no signs of cancerous rust anywhere, including underneath. Obviously, as documentation proves, this has always been a California car. Also, I’m sure it has been garaged and well cared for. When you get a chance, look down the sides of the car in some of the photographs that follow. In them you will see a car that is AS STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW. All shut lines are absolutely superb.
All chrome, glass, insignias, lenses, grill, and much more are in very good to new condition. Includes 4 matching, brand new, 205/70R15 radials, professionally mounted and balanced on beautiful chrome wheels and hub caps.
The INTERIOR, in my opinion, looks as good in person as it does in the photographs. All carpets, seats, door panels, kick panels, gearshift knob, steering column surround, steering wheel, horn button, headliner, control knobs and switches, day-nite rear view mirror, side mirror, wood, gauges, door openers, glove box and interior, sun visors, headliner and more are in very good to superbly excellent condition. The driver seat belt strap could profitably be replaced.
# MECHANICS
But the best is yet to come! The engine, with Holley carburetor, runs cool and strong, does not smoke, and does everything these trustworthy power plants have been doing so well for so many years. Excellent dual exhaust system. Correct Smiths gauges.
The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, the brakes and emergency brake work well, the power steering responsive, suspension tight, and the car is a joy on the open road.
WHAT WORKS? Among other things, gas (sometimes does, sometimes doesn’t), oil pressure, speedometer, tachometer, volt meter, and heat gauges, headlights, including high and low beams, brake lights, turn signals, including tail light flashers, front running light flashers and dash flashers, interior door openers, interior door locks, power windows (tested on center console), interior side vent adjuster, trunk lock, exterior door locks, radio, interior map light, windshield wipers, interior fan, interior lights, remote passenger door mirror adjuster, and more. Currently, the cigarette lighter, running lights (including side lights), license plate light, glove box lock, clock and horn are not working. Although my mechanic tells me the brakes are in excellent condition, the dash brake warning light will come on. The dual gas tank switches, heater and air conditioning have not been tested. The above is based on my personal observation, and is not a professional inspection or warranty, nor is it an exhaustive analysis of what is correct, or not correct for this year automobile. You can expect that some things may not work up to your mechanics standards, and that he/she will most likely find additional work that he would like to do.
# INCLUDED
