Ebay item 5/16/11
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Series-1-XJ-12-Perfect-condition-Mint-/140549526051
Current bid $7,659 reserve not met, 13 bids 9 days left in auction. 52k miles.
Sellers description:
This is a Series 1 car and the first year Jaguar put the V-12 in a sedan. I bought this car 4 years ago and restored it to a high standard. It was a rust-free southern car to start and originally owned by an Eastern Airlines pilot. I am a member of the JCNA (Jaguar Club of North America) and have shown the car in sanctioned club events since restoration. It placed 3rd nationally 2 years ago in it's class. That's significant because of the large size of that class. It includes all XJ cars from 1968-1987 and some cars up to 1992. The only reason I didn't compete last year was because the engine was removed for a complete rebuild.
Mechanically, every system has been gone through and sorted, including the suspension, brakes, cooling system with re-cored radiator, new water pump and new fan, air conditioning/heat (blows real cold or hot), the transmission has had the fluid changed with new filter and has had all the leaks fixed. Everything works electrically as well. The engine was removed from the car and rebuilt and the 4 carburettors were balanced. Both fuel pumps are new as well.
Cosmetically, we'll start with the paint. It has been repainted to a high standard, including the engine bay. All of the chrome is either new or almost perfect. The front and rear windscreen seals were replaced when the car was painted and most of the other rubber bits were also replaced at that time. The glass is all original and looks great. The wheels are all NOS "turbo chrome" Jaguar rims with new hubcaps and tires. The headlights are new H4 halogen flat glass and the other lights are either new or have new lenses. It's also probably the only Series 1 car in the US with fog lights. Most cars shipped here came with out them.
On the interior, I have put in a new wood dash kit, the seats have new leather and the carpet is new. The original door panels and wood caps are in exceptional shape. I have replaced the original stereo with a nice aftermarket JVC unit with HD radio, MP3 input and C/D player. I've got the original if you want it.
Note: The odometer does not show the actual mileage because I put a brand new one in when the engine was rebuilt. It shows around 880 miles. The one in the pictures is not the one in the car. I replaced it because the gear which turns the odometer in the original broke.
Bottom line: I have spent scads of money getting this car into it's current condition, way more than I'll ever get out of it! You know the story, my loss, your gain and all that. Now, I'm not going to give it away or reveal my reserve, but if you want a Series 1 XJ-12, this is the one to buy, basically for the cost of the engine rebuild. I'll even throw in the mountains of extra parts I've accumulated.
