This 1973 Jaguar XJ6 is finished in Signal Red over Cinnamon leather, and power is supplied by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller acquired the car out of Colorado in 2018 and relocated it to Tennessee. Work performed during current ownership has included replacing the engine block, cylinder head, timing chains, starter, and exhaust system, as well as reupholstering the seats and also servicing the transmission and the fuel system. This XJ is offered at no reserve in Alabama with a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Signal Red and features chrome bumpers, grilles, headlight surrounds, door handles, and window trim. The seller states that the car has been repainted and notes crazing in the paint, the presence of bodywork on the driver’s-side front fender, damage to the driver’s door and door hinge, as well as scratches, chips, and defects throughout.
Polished 15″ steel wheels wear Jaguar hubcaps and Yokohama Avid Touring S tires. The seller reportedly flushed the brake fluid within the past year and notes that the parking brake requires new pads.
The cabin is upholstered in Cinnamon leather, and the contrasting dashboard is accented with wood veneer. Amenities include reclining front seats, electric windows, and interior lighting. Front and rear seat covers from Lseat.com have been fitted, and the dash and storage tray have been re-covered. The AM/FM radio is said to have a bad ground, the air-conditioning components are present but inoperable, and the rear defroster, hazard lights, horn, and windshield-washer sprayer are inoperable as well. The headliner sags, and wear is noted on the door panels and elsewhere, as shown in the photo gallery below.
The black steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer. A gauge pod housed in the center stack includes a clock and instrumentation for monitoring voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 19k miles, approximately 1,500 of which have been added by the seller; true mileage is unknown.
The seller replaced the factory engine block and cylinder head with components from a 4.2-liter inline-six from a 1986 Jaguar XJ6 said to have shown 70k miles on the odometer. During the process, the head gasket, seals, timing chains, guides, and tensioners were replaced, and secondary butterfly valves were removed from the intake manifold. The factory Zenith-Stromberg carburetors were retained and rebuilt. Since mid-2019 the seller reportedly has installed a tappet hold-down kit and Lucas electronic ignition and also replaced the battery, starter, accessory belts, radiator hoses, HVAC lines, and the heater blower motor. The fuel system has been drained and both tanks flushed, the senders have been cleaned and resealed, and two modern fuel pumps were installed in the trunk.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Borg-Warner Model 12C automatic transmission. During current ownership, the seller reportedly flushed the transmission fluid, resealed the transmission pump, lubricated the chassis joints, and installed a Bell stainless-steel exhaust system and new tie rods. The engine, transmission, and power steering are said to leak, and corrosion is noted around the wheel openings.
