Seller's description:
This 1973 Jaguar XJ6 was purchased by the seller out of Washington state in July 2018 as a non-runner. The car had reportedly sat since 2014 when the previous owner was told there was a crack in the exhaust manifold, so the seller had it transported south to his home in Los Angeles. He set about getting it road-worthy by servicing the mechanicals and replacing a number of items listed below. This XJ6 is said to retain its numbers-matching 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six and BorgWarner automatic transmission. Between 2004-2011, a prior owner added new vinyl upholstery, a new headliner, new fuel pumps, a custom dual exhaust system, an electronic ignition system, a Lucas alternator with integrated voltage regulator, and also had the car repainted in factory-correct Turquoise according to the seller. This XJ6 is now offered at no reserve with records since 2004 and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
To the seller’s knowledge, the Turquoise repaint was completed at some point between 2004-2011. Current imperfections include a few dings and scratches, a bend/dent in the right-rear wheel well area, and fading/peeling clearcoat on the roof and trunk, all of which are detailed in the extensive gallery.
This XJ6 features OEM polished wheels and hub caps, which were mounted on a set of Pirelli P4000 tires in 2008 according to the included service file. The seller recently had an alignment completed, a new brake switch installed, and the brake fluid flushed.
The previously redone black vinyl upholstery shows well, including the rear seating area with a fold-down center armrest. The seller recently placed a new cap over the cracked original dashboard.
Equipment consists of power windows, an AM/FM cassette player, power steering, and more. Some cracks are present in the wood. Currently, the mechanical odometer indicates 66,841 miles, however total mileage is unknown since history prior to 2004 was not given to the seller. As purchased in July, the factory A/C compressor had been removed. The condenser, evaporator, dryer, and fuel cooler are included according to the seller.
The 4.2-liter inline-six sends power rearward through a BorgWarner automatic transmission. The seller has provided pictures of factory numbers/stampings, and states that both units are original to this chassis. A recent compression check shown in the gallery revealed ~125 psi in all cylinders except for #5, which was in the 105 psi range. Per the seller, a dry compression test was performed with all sparks plugs removed and the accelerator fully depressed. The readings improved by 15 psi when a wet compression test was performed. Since July 2018, the following work was completed to get the car road-worthy:
Engine oil and oil filter change
Greased ball joints, tie rods, drive shaft and steering rack
New spark plugs and ignition wires
New Optima red-top battery
Replaced both exhaust manifolds
Replaced right-rear resonator
New oil sender unit
Installed new braided stainless steel oil line
New starter relay
New water pump and thermostat
Coolant flush
