Hammer Sold - £33,600
This particular car on offer started life as a RAM D-type approximately 20 years ago. It was built and developed by John Ford who went onto build the 'Revival' series of cars with John Arnold at Revival Motor Sport. Some of the development work on this car was carried over onto the 'Revival' series of cars, which are considered to be the best of the composite replica D-types today. In fact this car was used for demonstrations by the company at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
Mechanically the car is based on Jaguar running gear with a Jaguar 4.2 litre straight six engine fed by triple Weber carburettors. Cooling is via an aluminium radiator with an electric fan fitted. Drive is through a five speed GETRAG (Jaguar XJS) gearbox to Jaguar final drive. There are dual circuit disc brakes all round with coil over suspension and adjustable wishbones front and rear. The interior is functional, just as the originals with all the necessary switches readily to hand. The correct 16 inch D-type style steering wheel allows the driver to see the instrumentation and gives the car the period feel it deserves. The oil pressure and water temperatures read exactly as they should whilst cold and hot. The view over the bonnet surely gets the adrenalin pumping even when the car is at a standstill.
The coachwork is presented in the Briggs Cunningham colours and is in very good order throughout. She is complimented by a new set of alloy wheels and new tyres. On opening the bonnet the aluminium bulkhead along and triple Weber carburettors give the impression of an original. A plumbed in fire extinguisher system is installed along with an easily fitted and removable roll cage, hard tonneau for the passenger side and a soft tonneau for the driver side. This car has a feel of age that cannot be replicated out of a paint pot. A 'Revival Motorsport' promotional DVD is included with the car seen during the promotional shoot. There is also a clip of the BBC 'Inside Out' programme, within the DVD, with Ben McCarthy and Tony Jardine racing the Revival cars. In addition, this motor car was driven by Stirling Moss at Mallory Park during an F1 experience demonstration day; a photograph of Sir Stirling driving this car can be found in the history file. This D-type evocation represents one of the true great cars of all time. It is very exciting to own, drive and has good provenance. Being correctly registered as a RAM and with a current MoT test certificate and road fund licence she is ready to enjoy this summer by a proud new owner.

This Jaguar D-Type re-creation was built in 1981 using fiberglass bodywork and a tubular steel chassis fabricated by RAM Automotive in Essex, England. Finished in white with blue stripes, it is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with triple Weber carburetors and linked to a Getrag five-speed manual transmission. The right-hand-drive cockpit features blue leather upholstery, TRS harnesses, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a fire suppression system, and other highlights include a vertical fin, side exhaust pipes, dual windscreens, Dunlop-style alloy wheels, adjustable coilovers, and four-wheel disc brakes. Over its history, the car has been driven in vintage racing events such as the SVRA Vintage GT Challenge, the Goodwood Revival, and Mallory Park. This D-Type re-creation is now offered in Italy by the seller on behalf of the owner with a FIVA identity card and Italian registration.
The original D-Type was designed as a racing successor to the XK120-based C-Type, and it attained consecutive victories at Le Mans in 1955, 1956, and 1957. Works cars were built in both short- and long-nose forms, while customer vehicles were produced with short noses and optional headrest-fairing configurations. UK manufacturer LR Roadsters began offering a D-Type re-creation in the 1980s, utilizing fiberglass bodywork attached to a tubular steel chassis. Vehicles were initially marketed under RAM branding, and the company later changed its name to Realm Engineering.
The short-nose bodywork of this car is finished in white with #15 roundels and blue stripes. Details include a vented front clamshell, a driver-side wraparound acrylic windscreen, a passenger-side Brooklands Aeroscreen, covered headlights, and a vertical fin that extends rearward from the driver’s headrest. Cracks in the paint are visible.
Dunlop-style alloy wheels are wrapped in Kumho Solus KH17 tires. The fully independent suspension features adjustable coilovers all around. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with four-piston front calipers and inboard-mounted rear units.
The right-hand-drive divided cockpit houses bucket seats trimmed in blue leather with white piping. TRS harnesses have been installed along with a fire suppression system.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a mixed set of instruments including a 180-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 9k miles.
The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with triple Weber DCOE carburetors, and cooling is provided by an aluminum radiator and expansion tank with an electric puller fan. Wrapped headers flow into vertically stacked side exhaust pipes with a single muffler.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag 265 five-speed manual transmission. A perforated skid plate has been added below the engine.
A FIVA identity card will accompany the car.
The car is registered using the VIN 2R4693BW, which is stamped on the chassis as well as the identification plate shown above.
The vehicle is being sold on its registration, which serves as the ownership document in Italy.
