Sellers description:
1977 Jaguar XJ right hand drive automobile with less than 29,500 original miles. Being known in my town as a Car Guy all of my life, I was approached a few years ago by an Englishman living a few blocks away regarding purchasing his 1977 XJ as he was moving back to England. He had purchased it several years earlier & hadn't driven it very much while here in the states. He stated that he was the second owner. I went to his home to check it out & was thrilled with it's originality & lack of rust. It appears to have been garaged since new. While it does have some minor touch ups & door dings, the body & paint is in great condition considering it's now 38 years old. I have tried to show some door dings that the car has acquired over the years, but not sure how well they will show in the photo's. A paintless dent guy should be able to remove them. I just never made the effort as I wasn't interested in showing the car. The interior is also in remarkably good shape, again being all original, with only minor cracking showing on the front seats. If the new owner chose to have the seats dyed, they would look new, but being a purist, I prefer the original patina indicating that this is an original, untouched & unrestored car. The vinyl top is also in great condition as well as the burlwood dash. While taking the pictures last night, I found that the left rear window was not functioning. Not sure if it's the switch or motor. I just want to be up front about it. The car comes with it's original tool kit & car cover.
I have driven this car from my home in southern N.J.(near Philadelphia) to New York City & back with no worries. It runs very well at highway speeds & retains great oil pressure after warm up. I would have no hesitation driving this car anywhere. It runs, shifts & drives like a new automobile.
I pulled & reviewed the file that I received with the car which indicates that I am in fact the 3rd owner of the car. The original owner sold the car in 1989, where it resided in England until the second owner moved to the US in 2003. I hold the import documents showing that the car was brought into the country Oct. 10, 2003. I also have many of the annual MOT inspections which help verify the current mileage to be accurate. Some of the years showing approximately 240 miles within that given year. All documentation will go along with the car.
