This car is the ex-Andrew Whyte (head of Jaguar Public Relations & renowned Jaguar author) coupe that he modified the appearance of. He removed the vinyl roof, the front bumper under-riders and fitted a Series 1 style under bumper grille whilst still employed by Jaguar & then presented the car to Jaguar management as his idea of how all XJ-C models should look. This was rejected by Jaguar, therefore, this car became the only XJ-C to leave Browns Lane without a vinyl roof. The car was originally registered HHP 829N and is featured in Andrew Whyte's book, "Jaguar XK - Forty Years On" on page 95, pictured at his home in his driveway at Ettington.
According to Jaguar records the distributor was Jaguar Cars, it was despatched on 5/6/75 as a press car (HHP 829N), its designation was subsequently changed from XJ6 C to XJ6 4.2 & it went to marketing in 1977. A.W. took the car with him when he left the employ of Jaguar and the car was eventually on-sold & subsequently exported from the U.K. to Australia.
The car today retains all of its original features and is awaiting a full restoration. It is currently owned by a Jaguar enthusiast & collector in Perth, Western Australia.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
