Ebay item 4/5/11
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-Daimler-Sovereign-Glamorous-Heritage-NO-RESERVE-/28 ...
Current bid $1,025 no reserve, 7 bids 5 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1971 Daimler Sovereign - GLAMOROUS! $20k invested

WARNING: This car may be too glamorous for some.
People will stop and stare, and even take pictures.
This is not a car for those who don't love attention.

Has the sliding roof. Roof, headliner, slider mechanism and closer all in near perfect condition and 100% water tight.
Limousine window tint was done to perfection by a show car company.
This model was advertised as the limousine that you would want to drive yourself.
Regarding size, the body length is actually 6" shorter than the long version that came later.
It is very easy to park, as the wheels steer incredibly sharp.
I routinely amaze people when I parallel park it into a spot that seems far too small.

Under the hood:
4.2 liter, straight six
Updated: optical distributor,
new battery, plugs, wires, ignition, regulator
carbs tuned (twin SU)
new fuel pump
K&N air filter
air horn -classic sound

Tires:
about 2000km on new, proper Pirelli tires. Cost $1500

Suspension, brakes, steering, transmission:
All good

Chrome and badges:
none missing.

Paint:
pearl silver, clear coated.
Looks great from 10 feet away, but has scratches close up.
Rear fender arches are gray primer and as you can see in the pictures, they blend well.
Personally I don't feel the need for a repaint.

Body:
rear fender arches redone, cut from rust free shell.
This bodywork is perfect. Cost me about $4000.
Still some areas to do if you plan to repaint.

Gauges and lights:
Temperature, Fuel, etc all work.
Speedo and ODO and horn quit at some point. maybe a relay?
Including original purchase price, over $20,000 invested.
Owned approx 7 years, just Sunday driving and road trips.
Two owners before me. Previous one rebuilt entire engine,
and replaced entire roof.
Runs good as a daily driver, but if you let it sit a few days it gets hard starting.
I did the window tint, tires, bodywork, engine updates.
Appears to have very low mileage, but it's a 5digit odometer so can't say for sure.
Original leather upholstery and wood dash and door trims.
Wood could be refinished easily.
Leather and carpets in surprisingly good shape (maybe it was redone at some point?)

Other:
power windows all work, and power antenna.
Heater works great. Air conditioning was retrofitted and worked great but leaked out over the years.
You don't need A/C anyway with the sliding roof.

This is a great car if you love to show off. When I park it and return,
there is often people taking pictures of themselves posed in front. (I can't count how many times this has happened).
It is by far the most striking, beautiful, yet handsome car I've seen out of ANY.
(And I attend lots of car shows. This one earned significant notice when I showed it at the old english car show some years back.
It was the only Daimler Sovereign there, amongst 30 or so look alike Jaguars.)

As imperfect as it is, there is just so much too much to love.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
